What lessons have we learned about planting and sales?
On March 5, 2026, the Food Forestry Network held its final online knowledge session, which was packed with fantastic speakers who shared a wealth of practical knowledge. This knowledge was explored in greater depth through two themes.
Two themes
What have we learned about the planting phase of food forests?
Wouter van Eck spoke about the lessons learned during the creation of the large-scale food forests in which the Food Forestry Foundation is involved; what mistakes were made, and what went well.
Sjef van Dongen of Agroforestry Supplies shared his experiences with the many agroforestry farms he has supplied with planting stock and continues to mentor; and Jan Degenaar of Lekker Landgoed shared his experiences as a food forest farmer on clay soil and immediately made the transition to the next topic:
(after 1 hour) What have we learned so far about the market and sales?
Jeroen Plesman of Schevichoven Farm shared his experiences with supplying the slightly longer supply chain—the requirements placed on products in that context, the methods used for drying or storing them, and the successes they’ve already achieved.
Gerdien Dijkstra spoke about the fantastic Lingehout food forest. It was founded by members of the Betuwewind Energy Cooperative and is already supplying harvest packages to 150 households in the region from its vegetable garden and fruit orchard.
